2016 Amalthea Rosé, Russian River Valley
The 2016 Amalthea Rosé is crafted of pinot noir, rolle and a dash of mourvedre, with a little kiss of French oak. We barrel fermented and barrel aged this wine for 22 months, with just 10% new French oak for some added interest and mouthfeel. In the cellar we treated this more like a chardonnay with lees stirring twice a month.
Amalthea was a Greek goddess who was at times depicted as a goat, and was the nurse to Zeus, God of the sky. She is also the namesake of our charismatic vineyard dog Thea (an Aussie shepherd, and definitely a goat herder!), so with much love we gave this name to our first released wine.
The rosé gleams with a gorgeous crystal clear salmon hue, crisp, dry and everything you expect for summer and beyond. The nose is perfumed with summer strawberry, pear cocktail and white peaches. The mouth fills out with strawberry cream, peaches, lemon zest and fresh ginger - with a nice minerality the wine is supre delicious and refreshing.
Drink now through 2020.
