Winemaker / Partner
Nearly a lifelong resident of Alabama, and a man (or goat) of many talents, Ted has experienced many professional pursuits, several of which allowed a significant amount of travel to the West Coast. After falling in love with Northern California, Ted finally moved to the California Bay Area in 2011 to pursue entrepreneurial adventures with his good friend Chris. Prior to the big move, Ted owned and operated a wine and tapas bar on the Gulf Coast of Alabama where he learned about the business, including the world of wine, and ultimately affected his desire to move to California to discover new opportunities.
Since his early twenties and as is customary for a Piscean, Ted dreamed of the wine lifestyle and living amongst the vines for many years. Not a kid anymore with the ability to return to full time university studies, Ted started taking classes at UC Davis and the Winemaker Certificate Program, when he had the dream opportunity to intern and learn from the best winemakers in Sonoma. Under the direction and mentorship of Dan Goldfield and Jeff Restel of Dutton Goldfield, Ted made it his passion to soak up as much knowledge and experience from these two amazing winemakers as he could. As the production assistant for Dutton Goldfield for the 2014 and 2015 harvests as well as performing vineyard work for Dutton Ranch, Ted and Nicole made one barrel of pinot noir from their home site at Morelli Lane in 2014 and thus began the Satyre era.
It goes without saying that Ted spends considerable time with our Satyre project but also is the General Manager of Sonoma Vintners Studio, a collective tasting room for the small wineries that make their wine in the Sugarloaf Custom Crush Facility. Other interests include reading political philosophy and history, playing bocce with friends, walking the vineyards with Thea and traveling to wine producing regions of the world. Ted is the father of two terrific young adults, Connor and Carly.
